She choked for 48 seconds straight,
All the while her skeleton snapped and locked before she started to dissipate.
Eyes rolling to the back of her skull without struggle,
If only her restraints would start to cooperate.
The closed mouthed screams seemed to defeat the purpose of the muzzle.
All the while her eye contact was fleeting,
And as her heart stopped beating the watchers started to leave their meeting.
As if the occasion was subtle.
The pain and the struggle was ended by one second of death,
And as the watchers stared grim there was relief in the room as the air escaped the hold of her chest.

Nice concept. Love how the entire poem is based off one medaphor. Strong imagery with a story like flow. Perfect title too...like she was sentenced to the death penalty. Love the inclusion of the watchers.
ReplyDeletei really liked this one baby, it was very well written. i enjoy when you write poems that tell stories, i still want you to tell me why she was there .. there are many places you can go with this i want to see them all ..
